Design your own art project

This entire project was about student choice, it was entirely up to us to figure out what we wanted to spend our time doing. I originally wanted to do a stencil of Wonder Woman and make a graffiti template. I next wanted to do a comic drawing until I remembered something I saw on social media, which was a tracing of a character with very solid colors. I got my inspiration and took to illustrator after that, I used to be very scared of illustrator, but now I'm very confident in my basic skills and knowledge. This project was a lot of fun and I'm very happy with my end product

For this project, we took physical pieces of paper and sketched out ideas for our personal logo. We could choose to do a logo for a company or use our initials. I had a hard time finding something I was comfortable with using and I spent a lot of time overthinking. I got more acquainted with Illustrator and tracing through trial and error.

The Truth of Happiness Video project

Throughout this project, we learned about the truth of happiness, and specifically how it can never be learned. Happiness is an ongoing goal for people living in our modern society right along with success and wealth. In order to gain happiness, you must first understand the difference between happiness and fleeting joy. For this video project, this group decided to go in the direction of belonging and acceptance and its impact on your happiness.

When I started this project, I had the idea to make a crack-video of sorts where there were flashing images of a distorted reality and overlapping voices to make contradicting statements to what the voice believed. I really liked my idea and I was working hard for the first day until I realized that it was going to take forever to get the voices to match up and I didn't want to deal with the hassle of learning something new. I swapped to digitally drawing a rough sketch of a polluted technology-centric society (reality) and started attempting to draw it in illustrator. After a day I got frustrated with that program too and ended up switching to my personal drawing app on my laptop.

When I finally decided on a program, I sketched out my paper sketch digitally and went back in to correct my lines. It took a long time to get the lines sharp and when I finally got to the color I didn't have much time left. I rushed through my color choices by using different layers of watercolor and I liked how it looked but I was planning on making it super realistic. When it didn't turn out looking like a professional made it, I got frustrated and wanted to delete all my work. I decided against that and made a few adjustments before putting it on here.

This project was about creating a visual aid to the content we are learning in Humanities about perfect societies and their flaws whether it be a Utopia or Dystopia

Teacher Creature

(above finished photoshop creation)

When I went into Roxy's room for the first time, I had no idea how to select a portion of a picture or use the undo key command. Since starting this class, I have had the opportunity and freedom to explore Photoshop and create my own understanding separate from my teacher's. I was able to mess around with the controls and find out what worked for what and if I ever got stuck, Roxy would always come over and help me figure it out. I just wish that I had more time to explore Photoshop and work on parts of my project that weren't finished. I loved making these teachers into my favorite characters.

Jenae (far left) is taking over the body of Rosa Diaz, I badass detective who can take down a perp with just one swing of the leg. She cares deeply about the rest of the squad but doesn't like to share personal details.

Libby (second to far left) is Captain Raymond Holt, the robot pencil-pusher who is caring and strong. He keeps everyone together and is the adoptive father of the whole precinct.

Tina (fourth to left) is now Gina Linetti, the precinct's secretary and Jake's childhood friend. She is usually on her phone, blocking out the haters, but when it matters, she helps out the team.

Sara (fourth to right) exists as Amy Santiago, a mentee of Holt and the most organized person you would ever meet. She just wants friends. You can also find her doing profound success dances.

Kyle (far right) is Jake Peralta, the main character who is always trying to get out of wearing a tie and is the life of the police department.

Tutorial Project

For this activity, we searched the inter webs for pictures and then went into photo-shop to edit them after watching tutorials. We continued to play around with the buttons until we found something that looked good.

Name Project

For this activity, we went outside and looked around for objects that we passed on our way to class every single day and repurposed them as letters in our name. I really enjoyed this project because it allowed me to use perspective to my advantage. After we collected all the different letters as pictures, we went back to the classroom to copy them to our computers and them move them into photoshop. It was interesting getting acquainted with this really complex program, but I kept trying and using different methods until I got to something that I was proud of.
