DRAWING

Continuous Line

Marker on 24x18in paper

2019 Spring Semester, Completed 2/12

I have always been afraid of continuous line drawing because you can't go back and correct. One of my best skills in art is my ability to identify something wrong in proportions or colors and in a continuous line, this ability is useless.

For this project, we looked at specific details and shapes in a subject and drew the details while intently focusing on them in order to help the hand listen to the mind.

I said to Britt Blasdell one fateful x-block Wednesday, "I want to challenge myself and do two portraits in the time we are supposed to do one." She replied with, "Go play 4-square and get some friends."

For this project, we looked at values and the use of opposite colors for shading and highlighting.

This was my first attempt at pastels this year. I immediately made it harder on myself by choosing a photo with a face shown not in profile or straight on.

How does value alter perspective? Value allows for realism as well as depth, value is basically adding more variables to a 2D surface, giving the illusion of texture, depth, reflection, and size.
